What happens in a typical first session?
First I will learn your child’s history. We will discuss what challenges your child faced during past needle pokes. What went wrong? What didn’t work? What you want to be different?
Then I will teach you the tips and tools that you will take into your next procedure. This will include a written plan that we co-create. It will include how to talk to your child. Timing the procedure. Which pain blocking tool is best for your lab, rn, phlebotomist to do the job well.
Is your child included in the session? This depends upon age. For babies, toddlers, and school-aged children most of the time I will work with the parent who will then become the expert in helping their children in creating a better needle poke.
For children who are older— tweens and up—-I like to work with parents first, and then include the child in the process with the parent present, so that the child can begin to become her/his own expert.
Do I Offer LONG DISTANCE PHONE OR VIDEO CONSULTS? Absolutely! Thanks to modernity I am happy to work with anyone in any state or country who seeks help!
